K Box Cones - a new aquaculture tub fitting

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

We are pleased to announce the launch of our K Box Cones (patent pending).

www.kboxcones.tk

The K Box Cone is an inexpensive and simple fitting that allows you to easily build a system for holding live fish and aquatic animals.  The flange on the Cone base allows for easy attachment to the tub base.  The Cone is marked for (i) convenient cutting to size to fit particular tub dimensions and (ii) for drilling to allow extra drainage if required.  The conical shape means that if nesting tubs are used, the assembled tubs can still be nested for space saving when not in use.

An assembled stack has several advantages:

o        it minimises floor space of the premises while maximising floor space per fish

o        it makes efficient use of a given volume of water

o        it reduces the chances of stagnant areas within a tub forming

o        it minimises plumbing requirements

o        it can be adapted to existing water supplies and circulation systems

o        it can quickly and easily be added to or subtracted from by one person as required.

The Cones have applications in hatcheries, nurseries, purging, acclimation, quarantining, ornamental fish and live seafood holding operations.

King Crab July 4 TH Sales in USA Market

Monday, June 29th, 2009

It’s hard to believe, but the year is half over and the 4th of July celebrations are next weekend.   The volume of king crab imported from Russian and Norway are about the same as last year, but prices are much better especially in the mid and small size crab.

A comparison between January and June is interesting.   Urner Barry had prices on mid size red king crab as follows:

1/11/09 6/25/09

16-20 $8.70-$9.00 $7.95 - $8.10

20-24 $8.15 -8.35 $7.45 - $7.60

20 ups $7.75 - $8.00 $6.80- $7.00

Actual trading ranges now fall below these levels, but one can see the dramatic difference and compression of prices.   Traders, and processors  are quoting numbers significantly below these ranges to generate sales and promotions especially at retail.  Whether prices will stay at these low levels is not known as some importers are now paying higher prices  on bulk king crab apparently banking on a shortfall of Russian product later this year and a market recovery.
