Mission

From the beginning the Aquafind mission has been to deliver relevant, useful information to International Aquaculturists and Aquarists using the efficiency of the Internet. This is being accomplished by providing searchable directories with contact data for aquatic suppliers, equipment suppliers, and service suppliers. This information resource is free and openly available.

History

Aquafind was conceived in 1991 for the tropical fish industry because of the 1000's of known fish species worldwide, only a handful were available at fish stores. With the advent of better and faster shipping methods it seemed only natural to make a directory of fish suppliers for aquarists. The Aquafind directory of tropical fish suppliers was created enabling anyone to find the fish they wanted. At the time, it was a printed directory with limited circulation by mail.

With the advent of the internet we were able to make the directory available to a much wider audience. As the internet version of the directory became known we began receiving requests for suppliers of commercial food fish. We expanded the directory to include all fish species filling this new category. Trading boards were then added to our site so that transactions could take place at one location. The species directory was expanded to include seaweeds and the supplier directory included feed ingredients and medications categories. Many links are on the web site including species-specific links, links to weather reports, fish markets, auctions, publications, as well as several aquaculture news sources comprising the remainder of the Aquafind service.

Our most recent enhancement to the directories has been to add password protection for all of the directory listings along with the ability of registrants to edit their data as their own business's evolve. Our growth is dependent on usage by the industry and as it continues to grow, we will add more features to the Aquafind service.
